Alana Kushnir

Alana Kushnir, Director and Founder of Guest Work Agency and Principal Investigator of Serpentine Legal Lab.

Alana is a lawyer and mediator focused on art law, copyright, commercial law and digital assets. In addition to being the Director and Founder of Guest Work Agency, Australia’s first dedicated art law and advisory practice, Alana is the Principal Investigator of the Serpentine’s Legal Lab, a space for investigating legal issues and prototyping accessible legal solutions for the arts technologies field. Forthcoming publications include an article on how artificial intelligence is challenging the law’s approach to art for the Australian Intellectual Property Law Bulletin and a book chapter on the legal complexities of artist worldbuilding projects for a Routledge publication on copyright, blockchain and NFTs. Alana is a frequent speaker on legal issues concerning art and advanced technologies and has published extensively on issues related to art law.

Alana’s practice has included mediation since 2017. She was named ‘Sole Practitioner of the Year’ in the 2022 Lawyers Weekly Women in Law Awards. She has also been included in the 2023 edition of the Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in Australia guide in the categories of Entertainment Law and Intellectual Property Law. She is a Board Director of the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) and a member of the Art, Cultural Institutions and Heritage Law Committee of the International Bar Association.
