Alexandre is an attorney with experience in Switzerland, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, and he specializes in Art Law, Estate Planning and Fiduciary Law. He previously worked at Citi Private Bank, HSBC Trust Company, Rothschild Trust and Rhone Trust, managing a portfolio of affluent families with substantial and active art collections and private foundations.
He is currently a Visiting Fellow at The Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, researching on Art and Heritage Law, Business and Human Rights Policy. He is the co-author of the Responsible Art Market Country Guides of Brazil and India. Forthcoming publications include an article on Cultural Heritage Illicit trafficking and the Financial Institutions complicity within the International Art Market. Alexandre is a frequent speaker and has published consistently on issues related to art law and business.
Alexandre’s law practice has included mediation since 2011. He has experience in Arbitration and Mediation in a wide range of Art Law and commercial disputes at both the domestic and international level. He is an advisor to private foundations, trustees and trust companies dealing with art works and collections.
He is a member of the Lawyer’s Committee for Cultural Heritage Preservation Association, Art Law Foundation, Brazilian and Portuguese Bar Associations and serves on the board of Charitable Institutions. He has provided thorough training for Families, Private Bankers and Trustees on dispute resolution, due diligence and international structuring of art transactions. He was appointed to the Arbitration and Mediation pools of CAfA in 2020.
Alexandre’s educational background: graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University in Law (J.D.), and later studied Constitutional Law (LL.M) at the same University. After moving to Europe, Alexandre attended the first year of the Masters Program in International Law at the Graduate Institute of International Studies and Development. In addition to his legal education, Alexandre obtained a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Corporate Social Responsibility at the University of Geneva, and attended the Art Law Executive Program at Sotheby’s. Before settling in Switzerland in 2006, Alexandre was a Professor of Philosophy of Law in Brazil at URCAMP and FARGS. He speaks English, French, Spanish and Portuguese, and has a good command of Italian.
