Bart Leijnse

Arbitrator, ‘Advocaat’ and Partner, Leijnse Artz

Bart has been a practicing lawyer since 1992. He is one of the co-founders of Leijnse Artz, a boutique law firm set up in Rotterdam in 2001, focusing on commercial interests in highly regulated markets for products such as food, consumer goods, health care and pharmaceuticals. His practice is dedicated to complex arbitration and litigation, mainly involving shareholders’ interests, international trade contracts and joint ventures, construction agreements and product liability.

Bart has been an arbitrator since 2005 and frequently sits as chair, co-arbitrator or sole arbitrator (emergency arbitrator) in institutional arbitrations – including for the Netherlands Arbitration Institute (“NAI”), ICC, WIPO – and ad hoc arbitrations. He has been admitted to the Arbitrator Pool of the Court of Arbitration for Art. Bart is regularly appointed as an arbitrator in domestic arbitrations by the NAI and the District Courts of Rotterdam and The Hague. He is a member of the NAI’s Advisory Board and of the ICC Nederland Commission on Arbitration & ADR. Bart was accredited as a mediator by the Dutch Mediation Federation in 2012.

Bart graduated at Leiden University in Dutch law (1988) and in philosophy (1994). From 1992 up to 2001, he worked for the Dutch law firm NautaDutilh.
