Michiel is an attorney, mediator and arbitrator focused on international corporate and commercial disputes, corporate governance, business and human rights issues, and art law. Michiel leads the arbitration practice at DLA Piper in Amsterdam, and is recognized by Chambers and Legal500. He is a visiting lecturer at VU University Amsterdam. He is an editor of leading corporate law journal Tijdschrift voor de Ondernemingsrechtpraktijk (TOP), and a frequent speaker and has published extensively. Furthermore, Michiel is a deputy judge and hears cases about commercial, corporate, and art disputes.
Michiel’s law practice has included arbitration and mediation since 2004, and he has worked as a corporate lawyer in New York for over two years. He has participated as faculty and judge at law school- and Bar Association- sponsored events, a lecturer at the law Firm School, and an arbitrator at Willem C. Vis International Arbitration Moot Court and a trainer at the Amsterdam Vis pre-moots. Michiel is a member of the ICC Committee on Arbitration and ADR. He was appointed to the original Arbitration pool of CAfA in June 2020.
