Gene J. Brockland is a partner in the law firm of AmundsenDavis LLC, an AmLaw 200 law firm with offices throughout the Midwestern United States. Gene maintains offices in both Chicago, Illinois and St. Louis, Missouri.
Gene is a practicing attorney who has extensively litigated and arbitrated art law disputes throughout the United States. He has significant experience in disputes relating to title and provenance. Among other title cases, he successfully represented a good faith purchaser of a stolen Norman Rockwell painting, Russian Schoolroom, in a title dispute with the original owner of the work. Gene has also represented artists in large-scale copyright infringement matters, especially in the visual arts. In both title and copyright infringement matters, he has successfully litigated through trial in federal court and on appeal.
Gene represents artists and galleries in contract matters. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the National Museum of American Illustration in Newport, Rhode Island and speaks on art law issues.
Gene’s law practice has included both arbitration and mediation since 1995. He has served as a court-appointed mediator for the Circuit Court of the City of St. Louis, Missouri. He was appointed to the Arbitration pool of CAfA in November 2022.
