Hugo Bijleveld

Hugo is an attorney and arbitrator focused on commercial, liability and insurance law and has a special interest in art law.

Hugo’s law practice has included arbitration since 2016. He has advised museums and has published on issues regarding liability and insurance of (loan agreements for) works of art. Previously, he has served as a judge in the District Court of Amsterdam (commercial law).

Hugo is also a tutor for the mandatory professional training for lawyers (professional ethics and rules of conduct) and, in addition, lectures on directors’ liability. He was appointed to the original Arbitration pools of CAfA in January 2020.

Hugo’s education background includes: a law degree in civil and corporate law at the University of Leiden (2000), professional training for lawyers (2000-2003), professional training for the judiciary and ADR training (2006-2010). Hugo is a Dutch native speaker and fluent in English.
