Managing Director of Art Law Services, lecturer in art law and current chair of the Association of Art and Law in the Netherlands
Laurens is a mediator and arbitrator focused on art law, copyright and commercial law. He is a member of PAIAM, RAM and the Royal Asian Art Society, and guest lectures at the Sotheby’s Institute of Art and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, teaching graduate courses on Art Law.
He is the co-author of the Dutch Chapter of the Art Collecting Legal Handbook as well as the Dutch Chapter for the IBA Art, Cultural Institutions and Heritage Law Committee Report 2020. He also contributed to the Responsible Art Market initiative. Laurens is a frequent speaker and has published extensively on issues related to art law and business.
Laurens’s law practice has included arbitration and mediation since 2015. He was appointed to the original CAfA Arbitration and Mediation Pools in May 2021.
Laurens’s educational background includes: an LL.M from the University of Amsterdam and a Chinese language and culture certificate from Tsinghua University in Beijing.
