Mike is an attorney, mediator and arbitrator with a focus on art law, copyright, entertainment and commercial law. He was an advocate in commercial litigation for about 30 years, including copyright, provenance, insurance and other art related areas of law. Then Mike was Deputy General Counsel of a global financial services firm, lived a third of the year in London and managed matters (both disputes and deals) worldwide, including time in Brazil and Hong Kong. Mike is the author of several articles on arbitration and mediation and has spoken at several programs. Mike is a collector of art and prints by several artists, including American, English and Dutch. He has acquired the works both from dealers and at auction.
Mike’s law practice has included arbitration and mediation since about 1980. Mike is a Fellow of the Charter Institute of Arbitrators (and NY Branch Secretary) and a Center for Efficient Dispute Resolution Accredited Mediator. He has arbitration and mediation training from them and the American Arbitration Association. He has served as Arbitrator and Mediator in a wide range of commercial disputes at both the domestic (US and UK) and international level. He is a member of several arbitration panels, including WIPO, CPR, AAA and the American Intellectual Property Association. He is also a member of several mediation panels including the federal courts in Manhattan and New Jersey, the New York County Commercial Division of the state court, AAA, and CPR. In the autumn he teaches at Hofstra Law School. He judges at law school and Bar Association- sponsored events in both the US and UK. Mike is active in several arbitration and mediation organizations and holds several leadership posts. He was appointed to the original Arbitration and Mediation pools of CAfA in January 2020.
Mike’s educational background includes: Harvard Law 1976 (J.D.); University at Albany, SUNY 1973 (B.A. magna cum laude). He is licensed to practice law in New York, New Jersey, and the District of Columbia (inactive). He is fluent in English.
