Pool of Arbitrators

Robert Rhodes KC

King's Counsel

A passion for art is in his DNA. Robert’s parents were keen collectors, and he too has collected since his teens. His taste is eclectic, ranging from the School of Raphael to Hockney and Hirst, via the Italian and French Old Masters. Sir Jacob Epstein made a bust of Robert when he was a child, and he has long had contacts and friendships in the leading auction houses. Because of his personal background and knowledge, Robert understands the deep feelings that works of art can arouse in people, and the unique position that art holds in life and the law.

Professionally, Robert has had a successful career as King’s Counsel for over 30 years, with 35 years’ judicial experience, including chairing regulatory tribunals, and being been involved in art litigation. This combination of professional expertise and personal interest is what makes Robert stand out. He offers an exceptional service in art arbitration and mediation.

Robert’s professional background includes: Fellow Chartered Institute of Arbitrators; Accredited Mediator; Adjunct Professor of Academy of International Dispute Resolution & Professional Negotiation. He is a Member of the Supreme Court of China’s pool of experts for discerning foreign law; a Master of the Bench of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple; a Member of the Bar Council of England & Wales; as well as a Member of numerous arbitration and mediation panels world-wide. He was appointed to the original Arbitration and Mediation pools of CAfA in January 2020.
