Stacie is an attorney, mediator and arbitrator focused on art law, copyright, and commercial law. She is a senior faculty member at the University of Sydney School of Law, having formerly taught at the Universities of Cambridge, Oxford, and Missouri, where she acted as the Manley O. Hudson Professor of Law. Stacie was previously a dual-qualified practitioner (US lawyer and English solicitor) with major international law firms in New York, London and Chicago, handling matters involving art law, copyright, insurance law and commercial law. While in practice she represented major art auction houses and assisted with international art importation issues in addition to copyright infringement cases.
Stacie has written over 130 books, chapters, articles, and other works concerning art law, copyright law, cultural heritage law, international arbitration, international mediation, and other matters. Stacie has won numerous awards for her scholarship, including the Outstanding Professional Article Award from the CPR Institute an unprecedented four times.
Stacie has served as a consultant to various national and international organizations. For example, she assisted the US Copyright Office with the development of a small copyright claims procedure and conducted judicial education for the European Union Intellectual Property Organization (EUIPO). She was also commissioned by the Federal Judicial Center (US) to write a guidebook on international commercial arbitration for US judges and assisted with the negotiation of the Singapore Convention on Mediation at UNCITRAL.
Stacie has been involved with arbitration and mediation since 1994. She is a member of the ICC Council as well as a Fellow of CIArb and a member of the CIArb Examining Board. She is on the AAA Commercial Arbitration Roster, the ICDR Arbitration Panel, the ICC Roster, the ICOM-WIPO Art and Cultural Heritage Mediation Panel, and the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Panel. When based in the United States, she was a Fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators and a court-appointed mediator for the federal District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Missouri. She was appointed to the original Arbitration and Mediation pools of CAfA in January 2020.
Stacie holds a PhD in law from Cambridge (2002), a DPhil from Oxford (2003), a JD from Duke (1994), a MPW from USC (1990), and a BA from UC Davis (1986). She is a native English speaker and proficient in Spanish.
