Steven Certilman

Principal, Steven A. Certilman, P.C.

Steven is an attorney, Chartered Arbitrator and Accredited Mediator (CEDR) focused on commercial law and particularly intellectual property. He is a former Adjunct Professor of Law at Fordham University School of Law in New York City, where he taught international arbitration. He is a fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators and the American Bar Foundation, as well as the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He is the author of numerous publications and articles, furthermore he is a frequent speaker and has published extensively on issues related to arbitration and mediation.

Steven’s law practice has included arbitration and mediation since 1988. He has served as Arbitrator and Mediator in a wide range of art and other commercial disputes at both the domestic and international level. He is a member of the arbitration and mediation panels throughout the world, including International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), American Arbitration Association, International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution, London Court of International Arbitration, Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, Vienna International Arbitration Centre, British Virgin Islands International Arbitration Centre (BVIIAC), Asian International Arbitration Centre and Russian Arbitration Center. He is also a court-appointed mediator for the United States District Court, Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He has participated as faculty and judge at the VIS Moot and other similar events and served as course Director for many years for the Accelerated Route to Fellowship program of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Columbia Law School-Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Joint Program on International Commercial Arbitration. He was appointed to the original Arbitration and Mediation pools of CAfA in January, 2020.

He is past trustee and former Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Steven received his law degree from Hofstra University School of Law, Hempstead, NY (J.D. 1981) where he was Associate Editor, International Property Investment Journal (1980-1981). His undergraduate degree is from Connecticut College, New London, CT (BA degrees in Psychology, Government and Sociology-Based Human Relations, 1978).
