Subhash Bhutoria

Partner IP and Art law practice at L&L Partners; Founder, Art Law India

Subhash is an attorney specialized in laws and practice relating to art law, intellectual property rights, contracts and internet law. In 2017, he founded the intellectual property rights and art law practice at a leading law firm in India, Krida Legal. Currently, Subhash is a partner in the IP and art law practice of L&L Partners.

In an experience spanning over a decade, Subhash has represented leading art galleries, creative professionals, publishers, fashion and lifestyle brands to name a few. Subhash regularly appears before various High Courts and Intellectual Property Offices in India. He has attended several mediation proceedings and has also negotiated various out of court settlements on behalf of his clients. He has been appointed as Mediator, both by the Courts as well as by his clients. Subhash was appointed to the Arbitration pool of CAfA in January 2020.

Besides his professional obligations, Subhash is involved in various academic writings and legal education programs. He has authored scholarly articles on subjects such as artist’s moral rights, artificial intelligence and art, graffiti and society, sports and intellectual property rights to name a few. He has founded Art Law India, an online blog dedicated to art law and business (launching soon). He is also authoring a work titled “Because there is a law”, which focuses on involvement of law in day to day life.

Subhash has also been elected as a member of the Trademark Reporter Committee of the International Trademarks Association (INTA).

Subhash is regularly invited by leading law schools in India for lectures on intellectual property rights and contemporary legal subjects such as fashion law and sports IPRs. He has also adjudicated national rounds of Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition and Stetson International Environment Moot Court Competition, multiple times. Subhash also delivers guest lectures on art business at the Capital College of Fine Arts, New Delhi.

Subhash pursued a bachelor in sciences and Law with honours in intellectual property rights from the National Law University, Jodhpur, India. He completed his law degree in 2009 and was offered an associateship with a leading IP law firm in India, while he was interning with the said firm. Until 2017, Subhash had worked as an IP lawyer with reputed law firms in India. In 2017, he joined Krida legal as an equity partner and has founded the IPR and art law practice at the said firm where he worked until he joined L&L Partners as a partner. Subhash is fluent in English and Hindi.
