Joe has been an attorney, arbitrator and mediator focused on commercial law, including intellectual property law for more than 42 years. He has lectured extensively, in the U.S. and around the world on topics relating to arbitration, ethics and the impact of technology on dispute resolution. He taught arbitration at the National University of Mongolia and at the University of Dundee, in Dundee Scotland. He has lectured at the Central Party School, Beijing, China, Dubai, Salzburg, Belfast, Dublin, Edinburgh and throughout the United States. He has published extensively on issues related to business law. Joe is the Past President of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, and a past member of the Board of Directors of the American Arbitration Association. He is a member of the American Law Institute and an Honorary bencher of the Inn of Court of Northern Ireland.
Joe’s law practice has included arbitration and mediation since 1980. He has served as Arbitrator and Mediator in a wide range of commercial disputes at both the domestic and international level. He is a is a member of the Large and Complex Case Panel and the International Panel of the American Arbitration Association and its affiliate the International Centre for Dispute Resolution. He is a court-appointed mediator for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Joe was appointed to the original Arbitration and Mediation pools of CAfA in January 2020.
Joe’s educational background includes a Juris Doctorate from the University of Miami School of Law (1977) and a Bachelor of Arts from the Defiance College (1974). He was admitted in 1977 to the Florida Bar and in 1979 to the D.C. Bar.
