Murray Rosen KC
International arbitrator and mediator
Murray Rosen KC is not only an arbitrator and mediator in commercial, culture, media and sports disputes, but also a Deputy High Court Judge in the Chancery Division, a Panel Deemster (High Court judge) in the Isle of Man, and the Chair of the Premier League Judicial Panel.
His extensive legal practice has included authenticity, provenance and restitution cases; copyright, trademark and passing off; and fraud and negligence in sales, pledges, auctions, agency and restoration.
He is a Fellow of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (since 1999), and a CEDR and ADR Group accredited mediator, and a member of the London Court for International Arbitration (LCIA), the Court of Arbitration for Sport, Lausanne (CAS) and Sport Resolutions. He was appointed to the original Arbitration pool of CAfA in June 2020.
Murray was called to the English Bar in 1976 and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1993. He has also been admitted in numerous offshore jurisdictions.
His previous experience was as an advocate in Lincoln's Inn (1977-2005) and as Head of Chambers (2000-2004). He was a Partner at Herbert Smith Freehills LLP solicitors (2005-2014) and Head of its Advocacy Unit (2005-2013).
He served as the Chair of the Bar Sports Law Group (1999-2002), of the British Association for Sport and Law (2003-2005) and of the Board of Appeal, Table Tennis England (2016-2018).
Murray’s education includes Trinity College, Cambridge (1972-1975, Open scholar, Philosophy/Law, BA Hons 1975, MA 1979); Brussels Free University (Wiener-Anspach scholar, Dipl. EU/Civil Law 1976); and the Courtauld Institute, London (Grad. Dipl. 2015), where he is now studying for his MA in History of Art. He also curates exhibitions of 20th century art. He is a native English speaker, and familiar with basic French and Spanish.
